Ok, everyone ready to begin? :)
Mike: I'm ready.
Peter: I am!
Micky: Ready!
Davy: Me too.
(The fast version of "I Wanna Be Free" begins as the MonkeeMobile, Lauren's Chevy Bel-Air, Valerie's corvette, and a fourth car, a much newer jeep, shows up in a huge parking lot.)
(Mike points to a large arch shaped like a castle. Huge, curling letters spell out "Storybook Land' across the length of the arch. Katie jumps up and down and tugs her papa's leg. She wants to ride all the rides and meet all the characters and eat lots of cotton candy!
(Jordan clings to his mommy and daddy. He's not sure about this place.)
*Lauren keeps the twins from running ahead while telling Micky to not go running off, too.*
(Daphne pushes Lizzie's stroller, while Davy coos and makes faces at her. Lizzie laughs at her silly da.)
(They finally make it into the park. Katie pushes her papa past a long row of small "houses" that look like a Tyrolean village. Emma longingly looks at a display of books in a window, but she finally catches up with her family.)
(Peter holds Jordan's hand. He stays close to his daddy, scared off all the people around, but curious about the pretty shops and the rides.)
(Katie leads her daddy right to the first actual ride after the Tyrolean village - a huge merry-go-round. Mike helps her on a white horse with a flowered saddle, then gets on the black horse next to her. Emma climbs on a greyhound. Peter puts Jordan on a rabbit, then gets on a horse. Valerie just sits on a bench.)
*The twins run to a kiddie-sized roller coaster. They get on while Micky and Lauren watch from the fence. After the first ride, they get off and get right back on. On the fifth ride, Micky and Lauren exchange glances and shrug, chuckling.* ;)
(Emma, Katie, Jordan, and Valerie ride an up-in-the-air type ride, with different cute birds as gondolas.)
(Peter, Valerie, and the kids look up...and up...as Mike and Emma ride The Condor.)
*Lauren now stands alone at the fence. She waves as the coaster goes by, Little Mick and Shelly still riding with Micky sitting behind them.* ;)
(The others join Lauren at the fence next to the roller coaster. Daphne and Emma stand with Lauren and Lizzie while everyone else joins the twins and Micky on the coaster.)
*The ride operator rolls his eyes at all the grown ups on the ride.*
(Emma dissuades the twins from a seventh ride by pointing out a gaggle of characters dressed in fairy-tale-themed outfits. Katie whoops and runs over to get Goldilocks' autograph. Jordan is far more shy. Mama Bear wants to say hi, but he buries his face into his mommy's shoulder instead.)
(Daphne holds Lizzie up to Baby Bear to say "hi." She's not afraid at all and burbles happily.)
*The twins run up to each character and get hugs and rubbed heads.* ;)
(Mike and Katie get on a car ride, where kids and their parents can "drive" a car around a track. Their car is yellow and has big fins. Katie waves proudly to her mommy, who snaps pictures. Jordan drives with his daddy as his mommy takes pictures. They're in a little green coupe.)
*Micky rides alone on a motorcycle while Lauren rides with the twins in a deep blue corvette.*
(Davy rides alone on a motorcycle behind Micky, while Daphne and Lizzie "wave" to him.)
(The entire group rides on a beautiful swan-shaped boat down a "river" that overlooks the fairy-tale land.)
*Next we see the entire group on a large log water ride. Everyone screams as they go down the waterfall and get soaked.*
(The kids run through an Alice In Wonderland-themed maze, first through what looks like giant cards painted all in wood, followed more slowly by their parents. Mike and Micky try to catch up with the kids as they run into a cave filled with glowing, animated puppet-versions of the Alice stories. There's a place where the cave branches off into two separate directions. One cave is tall and high and obviously for older people. The other is low and for kids, and that's where the four older kids go. Micky ducks as he follows the kids into the smaller tunnel, but Mike is in such a hurry, he forgets to duck...and finds himself seeing stars when he runs smack into the top of the tunnel!)
(Mike, Katie, Emma, Peter, Valerie, and Jordan ride on the ferris wheel next. Mike presses a bag of ice to the very big lump on his head and grumbles loudly.)
*Meanwhile, the entire Dolenz clan has returned to the kiddie roller coaster.*
(Everyone meets back at the Tyrolean village up front. Valerie and Peter take Katie and Jordan through the stores and food stands while Mike fusses to Emma about the lump on his head.)
*Micky and Lauren take the twins to a pizza stand and come away with a large pizza. They sit and eat. The twins each have a slice, Lauren has two, and Mick eats the other half of the pie. They finish and head through the stores.*
(Everyone meets at the front gate. Jordan is passed out, a stuffed bear hanging from his hand. Peter has him in one hand and a huge bear in the other. Valerie carries more stuffed animals, bags, and a food container. Mike complains about all the t-shirts and stuffed animals Emma bought a yawning Katie as they push through the turnstiles.)
*Davy carries two bags while Daphne holds Lizzie. There’s another bag in Lizzie’s stroller. Lauren holds the hands of each twin, while Micky is almost unable to see through the pile of packages he carries.*
(Micky almost trips over the turnstile as he tries to get out. The music ends when Davy opens the turnstile for him, and they both head out together.)
(Fade in on the Pad's living room. Emma, Lauren, the twins, Katie, and the four Monkees all come in. Katie plays with her new Goldilocks doll. Emma cuddles a Baby Bear. Mike flops on the psychatrist's couch next to Peter, the ice still on his eyes.)
Bob: Nice lump, Mike. Walk much? ;)
Mike: Shaddup.
Peter: I told you to take the left tunnel!
Micky: Is it feeling any better at all, Mike?
Mike: Yeah. It still hurts a bit, but nothin' like it did at the park!
Peter: (Sighs) We just haven't had much luck lately, between this and all four of us having mild heat stroke after the van broke down!
Emma: (Nods) Yes, we did finally talk all four of them into going to the hospital. They were all bruised and sore, and all had some mild heat stroke, Davy and Peter more so than Mike and Mick, since they were out longer.
Mike: Yeah, shoulda asked that old man where we could send him a postcard to thank him for the liquids.
Bert: Did anyone ever find out what pissed off those cowboys? I know the bikers were probably mad at you after you kept making them go off cliffs, but what riled the desert tramps?
Mike: We never found out the real story, but I think we may have busted through their cattle pens. We found scratches from splinters and barbed wire on the van when we inspected and repaired it at the gas station.
Bert: And old favorite question - where did you come up with the idea for this story?
Emma: This was another one developed in late summer and early fall, when we started working on ideas for the winter/spring arc. (Sighs) I wish we'd done more work on it. It's not the most exciting story we've ever done, and the kids probably weren't necessary.
Mike: We almost died of heat stroke, were nearly run over by cowboys, angry bikers, and stampeding cattle, and had to battle guards on top of a moving train, and you call this story BORIN'?
Emma: There was a lot of talk and dead patches in this story. I had intended for this to be a Peter-oriented comedy-drama, and it wasn't plotted well.
Mike: There's only so much you can do with an outin' in the desert without repeatin' yourself, darlin'. Don't be so hard on yourself. (Gives her a kiss)
Bert: Mike, Micky, we heard Davy and Peter's opinion on the Utah concert. Did you guys have a good time?
Mike: (Nods) Yeah. It was nice. I hope the footage came out well.
Micky: I like any public performance. I thought it was great. I can't wait for the next one.
Mike: Don't get your hopes up, Mick. We might make one or two TV appearances, but I want a good rest after we finish the movie.
Bert: Which should be within a few weeks. What are you guys going to do with all that spare time?
Mike: Probably work on my cars, spend time with my wife and baby girl, and work on new songs.
*Micky makes a face at Mike, which he doesn't see.*
(Peter snorts, Emma giggles, and Davy puts a hand over his grin.)
*When Mike turns to look at Micky, Mick is looking away, hands clasped.*
(Emma grabs a pillow to cover her giggling.)
Peter: (Controls himself) I'm going to spend tons of time with Val and especially Jordan, work on my songs, and just enjoy life.
Davy: I'll be spending time with Daph and Lizzie, and maybe join that dance club that just started.
Micky: (Grins) And show them what not to do. (To the producers) I'd like to work on my inventions and experiments some more.
Lauren: I was afraid you'd say that, Mick.
Mike: Ok, I know to avoid your house in the next few months. I don't want to end up shrunk again.
Peter: Could I join you, Mick?
Mike: Pete...
Micky: Sure, Pete! Always glad to have some help!
Mike: I'll remember to check the rugs for you two when I'm over your house, Mick.
Micky: Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mike.
Mike: How many stories have we done where you've done something-or-other to us?
Emma: Never intentionally, Baby. Leave him alone. (Makes a face) What's been with you lately, anyway? You've been so cranky! :p
Mike: Just worried. The movie's overdue, and our last album saw slippin' sales. I want this to be good. (Smiles and rubs Emma's tummy; she giggles again) And now we got another little one to think of...
Emma: We don't exactly have to worry about how we're going to feed and house this one, Mike. We're already talking about adding an addition to the house.
Mike: I know, but, Devils or no devils, so much could go wrong...
Peter: I think this movie is really making us all crazy. It's like what happened after we did our first tour, back around the time of the "Christmas Carol" homage story. We need to take a vacation and let off some pent-up energy and bad vibes.
Emma: (Nods) I've noticed it, too. (Pats her stomach) I don't want anyone to be split while I'm pregnant this time.
Peter: Davy and I were thinking the adults could take a week in Vegas.
Micky: I can't wait! :D
Mike: That would be a great place for a gig for publicity...
Peter: No, Michael. It would be a VACATION. We'd be seeing the acts, not playing.
Emma: And no one is allowed to gamble...or gamble too much. (Looks at Micky)
Micky: I won't gamble! I just wanna see the shows!
Peter: I just want to relax with Valerie.
Mike: Vegas... (looks at Emma and grins; she grins back) Lots of things we could do in Vegas, tours an' shit.
Emma: Tours could be interesting. ;)
Mike: Bob, when IS the movie comin' out? I doubt it'll be ready for the scheduled summer release.
Bob: And you're right, Mike. It's been pushed back to November.
Mike: November? Bob, this ain't what you would call a family holiday movie.
Emma: Honey, a lot of your audience will be on holiday break by then.
Bob: What was your favorite part of this story?
Mike: That hamburger we had at the old guy's place. Oh, and fixin' the van. I hope that Sheriff don't realize he probably saw us on TV and try callin' the cops.
Micky: I've gotta agree with Mike on the hamburgers at that diner.
Peter: The ride on the train before the guards showed up.
Emma: Spending time with the kids, especially the picnic. (Grins) And getting our big news. (leans against Mike, who grins, too)
Davy: Mick savin' me aftah I got stuck on that water levah.
Micky: Anytime, Dave.
Emma: (Looks at her watch) And by my calculations, it's time to head out. We hope all our readers enjoy the spring months.
Mike: And you can learn more about the real Mohave Desert by checkin' out documentaries on it, or takin' books out of the library.
Peter: See you next month!
(We cut to the end credits, as scenes from the "production" play under "Take A Giant Step." We get a shot of the entire group, including all of the kids, in front of the gas station in the desert under the words "A Raybert Production.")
