Ok, everyone ready to explore the ruins and catch the guys' concert?
Mike: Sure.
Peter: I'm always ready for a concert!
Micky: I'm ready!
Davy: Me, too, mates.
(We open in a soccer stadium outside of a town in Mexico. Fans sit in the cloudy but hot and humid day, screaming and throwing things on the stage. Security keeps the fans at bay as well as they can. The boys and the Goodtimers play "I'm A Believer"...but it sounds odd, more like Micky's soul version from "Nightmare Revolutions." The camera zooms in on the four women in the audience.)
Emma: (Sighs) I like the Goodtimers, but I think hiring them was a bad idea.
Valerie: (Nods) They're the nicest backup band I ever met, but I shouldn't have let Mick convince me they'd be a good match for the guys. They don't fit their music style at all.
Lauren: They more fit Mick's style than the band's.
Emma: It's not that the music isn't still good...
Valerie: But it sounds ALIKE.
Emma: This is the strangest tour we've EVER been on, and that's saying a lot.
Valerie: And I don't think all of the guys are thrilled with this.
Emma: Mike isn't thrilled about touring, period.
Valerie: Peter doesn't mind the touring, but he really wants to do something else.
Daphne: Davy loves the touring, but he isn't crazy about this, either.
Lauren: *shrugs* Mick loves it, but he is still admitting this place was not a great idea.
Emma: (Looks at Val) Maybe it IS time the guys started considering other options.
Valerie: (Shrugs) Yeah, but...they're really in demand for personal appearances.
Emma: Well, maybe it's time they took a longer rest than a few months. Mike wants to concentrate on his music and see Katie, and I want to work on more stories and articles.
Lauren: Mick would love to build more than just picnic tables.
Daphne: And Davy loves acting...
Valerie: Peter's been saying he wants to spend more time with Jordan. (Sighs) I don't know what I'll do about the personal appearances, but I'll think of SOMETHING that will give them an excuse to get away from touring for a while. The specials have been really successful, and NBC is clamoring for another one for the holidays.
(The song comes to an end, and Mike turns to the audience.)
Mike: Ok, folks, thanks for comin'! You've all been a great buncha people! (He repeats this in fluent Spanish. The crowd goes wild.)
Valerie: Ok, let's see if we can meet the guys at the bus, if they don't get trampled by the fans on the way out.
(All four head out of the area. Cut to the bus, where everyone but the guys are gathered in the back. The guys finally make their way in; as in "Up, Up, and Away" Micky and Davy's ruffled shirts are shredded.)
Emma: Holy SHIT! The fans got you?
Mike: We're lucky security's pretty tight, or they might have torn right through those two.
Micky: There's goes another perfectly good shirt.
Peter: (Plops next to Valerie) We're lucky they didn't want Mike and me!
Davy: You sure that's called being lucky, mate? ;)
Mike: I don't look good in shredded shirts.
Emma: (To the group in general) Ok, everyone, we've got to talk.
(Everyone goes on talking over her.)
Emma: Um, we made a major discovery today...
Valerie: Allow me, Em. (Shrieks at the top of her lungs) BE QUIET!!!
(That gets everyone's attention. The entire bus turns to Valerie.)
Valerie: Thank you. We discovered something very interesting at the hotel today.
Mike: What, cucarachas the size of guided missiles? ;)
Emma: No, baby. We found the Aztec ruins!
Peter: Really? I thought the Spanish conquistadors killed the Aztecs!
Valerie: Honey, we found where they USED to live, not THEM.
Peter: Oh.
Sam: You're kiddin'? That wreck's sittin' on real history?
Emma: We believe so.
Mike: That would explain what Sheila's doin' there, anyway. I'll bet she wants to find the ruins herself and turn them into some demented fun park.
Peter: Like she tried to do to Kibbee Manor!
Mike: So...whadda we gonna do?
Emma: We're going to find more ruins before Sheila does and tell the hotel owners to alert the Mexican government, then run as fast as we can before this storm hits.
Peter: (Looks outside) It's starting to get overcast, and the wind's been really blowing all day.
Mike: (Grits his teeth) Which means that as soon as we tell the Martinezes about these so-called ruins, we are LEAVING.
Micky: Double time.
(The bus pulls up in front of the hotel as the sky darkens more and the wind picks up. Everyone hurries inside. Cut to the common room, where the five Goodtimers, four Monkees, Nyles, and Jack sit. Lauren and Daphne walk in, looking disgusted. Mike makes a face.)
Mike: Sheila and Alex are gone?
Lauren: Don't know. They aren't in their rooms, and Carmelita hasn't seen 'em.
Emma: (Groans) Wonderful. Now we have devils on the loose.
(Manuel walks in the common room, looking around.)
Manuel: Saunders? Saunders? Is Mrs. Saunders here? There's a General Parador callin' for her, and he sounds madder than a starlet in LA who missed the premiere of Robert Redford's latest flick. :p
Emma: (Raises her eyebrows) I'll take that call, Manuel. (She goes out to the main desk, followed by the entire group. Everyone leans over her as she picks up the battered phone Manuel hands her. She says, in her best Sheila-like accent) Yes?
Parador: Sheila, why haven't you checked in yet? How long could it take to find ruins?
Emma: (Frowns) These things take time, sir. I can't just dig on my hands and knees and automatically find ruins and fabulous treasure and things.
Parador: Do not use that voice with me, Ms. London. I give you money. If you do not come up with ruins and Sun Stone, you know how hungry my pets are.
Emma: (Gulps softly, but then, more confident) Sun Stone?
Parador: The Sun Stone! The magical rock used by the Aztec magicians to conquer tribes!
Emma: (Laughs) Yes, of course! (Whisper, to the others as she covers the phone) He's after the Sun Stone!
Valerie: So, it's real?
Emma: He seems to think it is. (Returns to the phone) Yes, what were you saying?
Parador: Who is that with you?
Emma: Oh, just Alex. He chatted up some locals.
Parador: That reminds me. How you coming with the owners?
Emma: (Raises her eyebrows, but grins and tries to sound seductive) They're putty in my hands. They don't suspect a thing.
Parador: That is good. (Growl) I must have the Sun Stone, Sheila. I will book a room at the hotel and come with you. I want to make sure this deal is good.
Emma: Of course, the deal is good! Why on earth wouldn't it be?
Parador: I want to make sure nothing goes wrong and you are level. (Chuckles) Besides, I’d like to see these ruins for myself. I will bring men to help you excavate the area.
Emma: I don't know if that’s a good idea. It looks like a major storm is brewing out there.
Parador: Nothing more than some wind. Now, I will let my man call the owners and set me up for the night. Good bye. I will meet you this evening at 5 o’clock.
Emma: And I will meet you too. Good night! (She slams the phone down)
Mike: Ok. What was that all about?
Emma: Sheila is after the Sun Stone.
Valerie: (Nods) Yeah, a rock that can dull or dampen light powers WOULD interest her.
Emma: But that's not the worst of it.
Chester: I don' like the sound of this.
Charlie: Well, out with it, girl!
Emma: There's someone else in on this. Another Mexican, from the accent. Must have been someone important; he gave a lot of orders and mentioned "pets" that were hungry.
Peter: That's not good.
Mike: So, Sheila and this Mexican are after the Sun Stone. (Glares at Micky) Great Mick, just perfect. Another one of your wonderful vacations. We are trapped in a hotel that's about to fall apart any minute, there's a hurricane coming, Aztec ruins under our feet that the Devils want for their own personal playground, and oh, did we mention those ruins also interest some crazy Mexican official who wants to take over the world? (Mike growls and lunges for Micky's neck)
Emma: (She and Peter grab Mike's arm) Honey, he didn't know!
Micky: Mike! *jumps away, screaming*
Lauren: Leave him alone, Mike! He didn't do it on purpose!
Valerie: (Gets between Mike and Micky) Murder each other later, guys. Right now, the best thing we can do is take a course of action.
Mike: Yeah. We're all leavin'. Now. This minute.
Peter: But what about the Martinezes?
Mike: If they wanna come with us, they're welcome to.
Peter: But this is their home! If we abandon the hotel, where will they go?
Emma: And what about Sheila and the ruins?
(That's when the lights flicker a few times, then go out.)
Mike: Shit.
Chester: Oh man, how'd it get dark in here? :p
Micky: Oh crap.
Emma: (Concentrates; we see a dark blue light in the blackness, then a beam of light) I have flashlights, gang. (Hands flashlights around to everyone)
Sam: Where'd these come from?
Emma: I grabbed them from the desk when the screen went dark.
Peter: I'm scared! What if that Mexican official shows up and tries to kill us?
Emma: Peter, he doesn't even know we're here. He thinks I'm Sheila.
Mike: That's it. Everyone load up the bus NOW. We are LEAVING before this storm and the Devils get any worse!
Valerie: But...
(Mike storms upstairs, followed by Emma trying to reason with him. Peter sighs.)
Peter: Val, he has a point. Everything's gone wrong since we've arrived here.
Valerie: I still feel bad, though. I wanted you guys to have a nice vacation.
Peter: We'll find a town further on the mainland and continue our vacation, Val! Everything will be all right!
Valerie: I hope so, Pete. (Sighs and follows the others.)
(Cut to outside. It's almost as dark as night, and the wind is whipping around fiercely. Manuel and Jose help everyone get their things outside.)
Manuel: (Drags a large suitcase) I'm gonna be sorry to see you guys go, but this storm is gonna be a killer!
Mike: Yeah. (Sniffs) I can smell it. This one's a real doozy.
Micky: *groans* Great. :P
Chester: Um, Sam, can I ask you somethin', man?
Sam: (He's carrying six bags under his arms) Yeah man, what?
Chester: Was the right tire that flat when Mick parked the bus? (Indicates a very flat tire on the bus's right side)
Sam: (Drops all six bags in surprise) Aw, shit.
Mike: (Eyes widen) Oh man, no.
Peter: Please tell me we can call a tow truck!
Micky: Uh oh.
Jose: The nearest auto parts store is fifty miles from here!
Manuel: And I doubt they'd be able to tow a bus, anyway.
Mike: Shit. You mean we're stuck here?
Manuel: You could always sleep in the bus.
Valerie: Why don't we put everything but what we absolutely need tonight in the bus, then go back to the hotel? At least it has heat and space to move around in.
Mike: (Sighs) Looks like we don't have a choice now.
(Everyone does so. We cut back to the dark hotel. Carmelita joins the weary group as they troop in the common room.)
Carmelita: Well, do you stay?
Peter: We have to. The bus blew a tire.
Carmelita: Oh dear.
Sam: (Turns from a huddle with his colleagues) The boys an' I were havin' a chat, an' we said, since we're stuck here anyway, we might as well find those ruins before that chick n' her Mexican nutcase do.
Peter: I'm not sure that's a good idea.
Mike: I KNOW it ain't a good idea.
Emma: I don't know WHAT to think. I'd like to live through this storm, but if we find the Sun Stone before Sheila does, we might be able to hide it or give it to the Mexican government when this blows over.
Micky: I probably shouldn't say this, but I doubt things could get worse. I hope. :P
Valerie: How about we do this democratically? All in favor of going ruin-hunting, raise their hands. (Valerie raises hers. Emma sighs and, ignoring the deadly look on Mike's face, raises hers. The Goodtimers all raise their hands.)
*Micky, Nyles, and Jack raise their hands.*
(Carmelita and Jose Martinez raise their hands, too.)
Valerie: It's settled. We'll split into two groups. One group will go out in the woods and see if they can find more ruins or the Sun Stone. The other group will go in the basement and look for the ruins that way.
Mike: Mick, how about you n' Dave take Lauren, Daph, Nyles, n' Jack to look for ruins around the hotel area? We'll check that basement opening.
Micky: *nods* Okay.
Carmelita: I'm going to try to get through to the electric company. We have vehicles. Not large enough to fit all of you, but we could go for help if it is bad.
Jose: (Grins) Can we join in?
Manuel: I don't know if that's such a good idea...
Jose: We'll go with the people outside! We know this area like back of wrist! :D
Mike: An' those of you who have them...you know how to get in touch with one another.
Emma: (Mutters to Lauren) If you get in trouble, call us on the communicators. We'll do the same.
Lauren: Right. You got it.
Mike: (As more boards are heard flapping against the hotel) Ok, guys, I think that's our cue to get goin'.
Emma: If no one finds anything of any interest, we'll see you in two hours, or when the storm gets too bad to continue, whichever comes first.
Mike: Ok, folks, let's move 'em out!
(The two groups go in opposite directions. The camera follows Micky, Davy, Daphne, Lauren, Manuel, Jose, Jack and Nyles out the kitchen door and into the overgrown courtyard. The furniture the boys sat on to do their rehearsals earlier is gone, probably in the hotel. Debris blows everywhere.)
Lauren: I'm gonna say it right now. I don't like this at all.
Micky: That kinda goes without saying, babe.
Manuel: I'm on Mrs. Dolenz's side. This whole thing is freaking me out.
Jose: I think it exciting!
Daphne: Well, what now? Into the woods?
Davy: And 'ope we come OUT.
Jack: Not hope! We WILL come out!
Manuel: As long as we stay away from weird animals and anything that hisses, we should be ok.
Daphne: That did NOT help.
Lauren: Yeah, that REALLY didn't help. :P
Jose: Well, shall we make a tear for it?
Manuel: (Shrugs) It could only be less windy under all those trees.
Davy: Everyone, 'old each othah's 'ands. (Takes Daphne's and Micky's hands) Make a sort of line. It'll 'elp us get through the wind.
Lauren: *takes Micky's other hand* Or blow ALL of us away.
Manuel: (He takes Nyles' and Jose's hands) Come on, RUN!
(Everyone makes a run for the woods as "99 Pounds" begins. They break up when they get into the jungle. It IS less windy, though we see the leaves on the trees still whip around. Everything on the ground is fine, though. The group drops each other's hands and starts looking for crumbling walls and other things indicating ruins.)
(Manuel and Jose argue over whether a wall of moss might hide stone. Manuel makes his point by punching the wall...and pulls away his hand, making a face. Jose pulls the moss away to reveal a tree.)
(Davy puts a jungle blossom in Daphne's hair.)
(Daphne sits on a bed of moss while Davy continues the search, digging around the moss and occasionally stopping for a kiss.)
*Nyles grabs a vine and swings, and lands in a bunch of bushes.*
*Jack shakes his head and helps Nyles out of the bushes.*
*Lauren points out spots where she wants Micky to look. He checks every single one of them. She keeps pointing them out, though Micky is visibly tiring.*
(Manuel follows Jose across the jungle. They're still arguing. Manuel grabs what he thinks is a vine to steady him as he goes under a tree branch. Jose takes one look at the "vine" Manuel pulls down and turns in the opposite direction, screaming. Manuel finally takes a look at what he's grabbed. A snake rears it's head to check him out as well and hisses. Manuel screams, drops the snake, and runs. The snake, now animated, sticks it's tongue out at the two Mexican brothers and, indignant, flounces back to its tree.)
(Davy finally stands. He hasn't found anything. Daphne points to a huge flower, the biggest she's ever seen. She'd like it in bouquet. Davy leans over and tries to grab at it...but he takes one sniff at it and runs off, his face green. It may LOOK groovy, but it smells like rotted meat! :p))
*Micky is sprawled out on the ground, worn out from checking every area around him within a 20-foot radius. Lauren sighs, fanning him.*
(We see two blurs fall out of a tree in front of Micky and Lauren. Manuel and Jose try to make their way out of the heap they're currently in, cursing a blue streak in Spanish.)
(Daphne joins them. Davy literally drops via vine a few seconds later as the song ends.)
*Jack & Nyles hold up signs proclaiming "10."*
Davy: (Bows) Thank you, thank you. (Turns to the others) Any luck?
Daphne: Not on the ground.
Lauren: Nothing.
Manuel: All we found were rotted logs, snakes, and trees with very hard trunks.
Daphne: (Dusts herself off; the trees are whipping harder) I think maybe it's time to start back. This is probably a wild ruin-chase.
Manuel: (Leans against a wall of vines and hanging moss) I could have told you that from the beginning.
Davy: (Thoughtful) Manuel, maybe it's just me, but aren't you leanin' against somethin' solid?
Manuel: Probably just another tree.
Jose: No! (He pulls away some moss...to reveal crumbling stone) It is rock!
Micky: Well, whadaya know?
Manuel: (He and Jose tug at more moss, revealing more crumbling rock) He's right! There's a wall here!
Jose: (Tugs at a vine) We need somethin' strong to move vines.
Davy: Wait! I'll be back in a second! (He goes behind the large tree Micky and the girls lean against. We see a faint dark blue light. When he comes back around, he holds several large knives, including Micky's dagger and his rapier) I thought we'd need these.
Micky: Thank you, Dave. ;)
Davy: If we're gonna go up against Sheila and some bloody Mexican official, we'll need some kind of weapons. (He hands daggers to the rest of the boys)
(There's a montage of the boys cutting away the vines and the moss. They finally reveal a huge, crumbling stone wall, with a few steps etched in the side. It takes all four men to pull a door out of the wall. There's nothing but blackness in the door.)
Davy: Well, mates, shall we 'ave a go?
Jose: (Grabs Manuel's hand) We play game!
Manuel: You're joking!
Micky: Oh, hell, why not?
Davy: (Looks at the girls) Maybe you two bettah not come. We don't know what's down there. I think you should go back to the 'otel.
Manuel: You and Carmelita can alert the local authorities, if you can get a hold of them in this mess. The government should know about this!
Lauren: Gladly.
Davy: (Looks at Jack and Nyles) What 'bout you fellas?
Jack: I'm coming!
Nyles: Me, too. Wouldn't miss it for nothing.
Davy: (As rain begins to filter through the trees) Oh man, it's gettin' worse. You'd ladies best be gettin' back.
Lauren: C'mon, Daph, let’s get going.
Daphne: Right. Call us the moment you find something, and we'll call the local authorities.
(The girls go back the way they came. Davy turns his flashlight on.)
Davy: All of you ready to find what's in there?
Manuel: No.
(Jose just jumps up and down, clearly excited.)
Micky: *grins* This oughta be interesting.
(With weapons in one hand and flashlights in the others, the six men venture into the dark hole in the wall as we fade out.)
