Drew at the Royal Rumble!

Yes, you heard me right! Drew was indeed at the Rumble.

A little background: the Royal Rumble is an annual match that the WWF holds putting 30 guys in the ring to fight an "over the top rope elimination match" to see who gets a shot at the Championship title. The match starts with two wrestlers and one more is added at each two minute interval.

Earlier in the night, Drew was spotted getting out of his limo. Drew mainly stayed backstage, he never had a front row seat (which is what I thought). He met up with Triple H (who had an appearance in an episode of DCS as a spokesman for Buzz Beer). He met up with WWF CEO Vince McMahon, who then offered Drew a chance to be in the Rumble... actually, Vince told Drew he was in the Rumble.

Drew thought this was a big joke. Remember, wrestling is scripted, so he knew what he was getting into. Later, in the night, a member of the backstage crew brought Drew some sweats & Drew said something to the effect, "I guess I'm an actual wrestler now." Nope, sorry, Drew, far from it.

Unfortunately, one of the wrestlers that Drew came across (that actually was in the Rumble) was a big 7-foot "monster" known as Kane. Kane never said anything as he passed Drew. After Kane left, Drew said "What a grouch." Not a good first impression.

On to the match itself, Drew had #5. There were still two guys in the ring, so Drew took his sweet time getting to the ring. He had entrance music, but not "Cleveland Rocks" or "Five O'Clock World" as I had thought. He greeted fans & slapped their hands as most of the popular wrestlers did at one time. Drew took almost two minutes before he got in the ring... just after the two that had been in the ring eliminated each other, leaving Drew as the only one left in the ring.

The next wrestler down? Kane! Yes, the "monster" himself also took his time getting to the ring. Finally, he got in & just stared at Drew. He then set off his pyro (some fireworks out of the corner turnbuckles). Drew then decided to offer Kane money. Nope, Kane didn't want it. Kane then put his hand around Drew's throat to give him his pattented "choke slam" (puts his hand around his opponent's neck, picks him up like that & slams the opponent on his back).

Fortunately for Drew, the #7 wrestler, Raven, came down before the two minutes were up, hit Kane over the head with, I think, a kendo stick, allowing Drew to make a run for it. He went over the top rope, eliminating himself & went back down the aisle, continuing to greet fans.

Aside from that, every time Drew made an appearance, a plug was made for "Drew Carey's Improv All Stars" PPV special this Saturday, the 27th. Half of the event seemed like one big plug. Drew's appearance in the Rumble was one of the funniest things I've seen, aside from anything related to "Whose Line is it, Anyway?" or "The Drew Carey Show". Excellent PPV wrestling event.
