TV Guide Online: Tonight we are chatting with Drew Carey from the new TV movie Geppetto Hi Drew! Thanks for coming!

Carey: Hi, everybody!

Question: Whose Line is so funny and you do a great job in the hoedowns. What's your favorite game on the show?

Carey: Probably the hoedown. My least favorite is getting to be the foreign language one. I think I've just done it too much. I actually LOVE doing hoe-down. I wish I could do one EVERY show. Collin and Ryan hate the hoe-down, They're NOT just pretending.

Question: How did it feel to be in the 'Hot Seat' on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire and win 500,000 for charity?

Carey: It felt great! It was very easy at first.I got very nervous I didn't want to lose any money for the charity. One of my biggest thrills was beating Rosie O'Donnell on the fast finger question about Broadway musicals.

Question: Give us the Readers Digest condensed version of Geppetto!

Carey: Boy meets puppet. Boy loses puppet. Boy gets puppet back.

Question: Hi Drew....I love what you did for the Ohio libraries! Thanks for the kids and too the adults that will constantly use the much-needed funds you so generously donated. I LOVED 'ya on Who wants to be a Millionaire. SMART MAN...very smart! Hugs to ya!!

Carey: Thank you very much. I didn't really donate the money it was Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. By the way, the library was one of my favorite places to go when I was a kid. I just loved being there.

Question: Drew, your ABC movie Geppetto, does it have some funny moments in it along with a serious side?

Carey: No, it's all one big downer...Just kidding! Yes, of course, it has some funny moments AND the music is good, too

Question: Hey Drew, what do you think about the Yanks sweep of the Tribe?

Carey: I'm sorry, I can't hear you? I think my computer must be broken...Try again later.

Question: Hi Drew.... I enjoy the show very much! What got you interested in doing something like Geppetto?

Carey: Steven Schwartz flew out and played the music for me and from then on I wanted to do it. I thought the music was very good and even though I don't sing any better than Ringo Starr does, I thought I'd be STUPID to turn it down.

Question: Drew, The Drew Carey Show spawned a lot of merchandise, including a CD of music from the show. Any chance that Whose Line will put out a CD with some of the "Song Styles" and "3 Headed Broadway Star" tunes by the cast? I think it'd be a big seller.

Carey: I hadn't thought of it before... But thanks for the great idea I would love to see that I'm going to mention that as soon as we get back to production in July.

Question: Your book Dirty Jokes and Beer is hilarious, are you planning on writing another?

Carey: Thank you! I would love to write another book, but I’m so busy I just don't have the time. Maybe when the shows over in a couple of years.

Question: Is the character, Mimi, modeled after anyone you've known in your life?

Carey: THANK GOD NO! If there was someone like Mimi in my real life I'd be in JAIL right now. In real life, we get along great. We were just on vacation together...The whole cast went on vacation.

Question: I've often said that I would really love to hang out with you for a day! What would we do?

Carey: My days are a lot more boring than people think they are. We'd get up late play with the dogs, eat lunch at Bob's Big Boy, see a movie, play some Civilization II. I also don't drink as much as people think I do, but we'd kill a six pack of PEPSI each.

Question: LOVE YOUR SHOW!! BUT LOVE IT MORE WHEN THEY'RE THE MUSICAL ONES. THEY'RE REALLY GREAT. ANY MORE PLANNED???

Carey: There was one last night. I'm sorry you missed it! And thank you for the compliment.

Question: What is it that made you want to join show business?

Carey: I'm not in show business but keep dreaming with me and maybe someday I will be. Seriously, I just kind of fell into it. It was never a big dream of mine to have a show or any of these other things I just wanted to be a good standup comic.

Question: Drew, when are you going on the road again with Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Carey: The actual show Whose Line never does go on the road but we do like to do live improv shows that are quite different than what you see on TV. We're going to try to get to Las Vegas this fall but the plans haven't been finalized yet.

Question: What is a typical week like on the DCS? Ex. table readings, rehearsals, and final dress rehearsals and how many hours do typically work in a day.

Carey: I've written about that at length in my book Dirty Jokes and Beer now available at your local bookstore. HOWEVER, we have the table reading on Thursday. We rehearse on Friday, camera block on Monday, shoot on Tuesdays and then take Wednesdays off .

Question: Are there any stars from the Drew Carey Show that are in Geppetto?

Carey: No, but Wayne Brady from Whose Line is it Anyway? has a good part in it.

Question: What was the name of that comedy book you found at your library?

Carey: I think it was called How to Write Comedy by some English guy. He wrote jokes for Jack Benny I wish I had a copy of it. But it was a library book and I had to take it back.

Question: Congratulations on your winnings on Millionaire! What did you think of the questions?

Carey: The first ones where incredibly easy as always. The last ones were easier than I made them out to be but I get so nervous when a lot of money is involved. I psyched myself into making the questions harder than they are.

Question: How much rehearsal goes into Whose Line? Is everyone really that quick? Who were your comedy heroes as a child? Who do you like now?

Carey: We do a short camera rehearsal playing the same games but using old suggestions during the taping none of the performers know what they are going to be asked to do they haven't seen the cards they don't know what the audience is going to say SO yes, they are as quick as they seem. All they ever know is what games they're going to have to play. As to comedy heroes...There are so many, I could never mention them all BUT I loved Bill Cosby, Firesign theatre, The Committee, George Carlin, Flip Wilson and I sill like George Carlin quite a bit. There are actually a lot of people who make me laugh for a lot of different reasons.

Question: I just want to say how much I enjoy the Drew Carey Show and Whose Line is it Anyway?, I'm looking forward to seeing you in Geppetto, which seems like a little different role for you. Do you have any other plans in the works that you could share?

Carey: Right now, I only plan to take a well-deserved break. Thanks for the compliment.

Question: Will you ever get your final revenge on Mimi?

Carey: Hmmm...I don't know. If I did that, How could we ever do the Drew Carey reunion show 20 years from now when we all will need the money! :)

Question: How long have you been bowling?

Carey: I came out of the womb with a bowling ball in my hand.

Question: Hey Drew, if you have the opportunity would you be on Who Wants to be a Millionaire again?

Carey: ABSOLUTELY! Except this time I wouldn't be as nervous and I would win the WHOLE million. Yeah, that's right. YOU heard me.

Question: Have you taken singing lessons?

Carey: YES. I don't know how much they helped. But I look singing lessons, I used to sing as good as...Lee Marvin or Clint Eastwood. Now I sing as good as Ringo Starr.

Question: I understand that while you were traveling recently a cast member played a prank on you by placing a "personal" item in your baggage that made it difficult to get through security. Is this true?

Carey: Yes, it was the director who did it to me. It happened last fall. We based a show on it. Wait, not last fall...It happened last year. But we did base a show on it if you saw the show, you know what was in my bag. (I don't want to get too detailed...)

Question: Is your girlfriend on Drew Carey sitcom, pregnant in real life? If so, when is she due to deliver?

Carey: YES! She is pregnant in real life! She’s going to give birth ANY MINUTE. I keep saying she has to name the baby DREW, no matter what.

Question: You and Drew Barrymore have the same first name --- are you related?

Carey: Please unplug your computer RIGHT NOW and go kill yourself. Just kidding! Ha ha, Just unplug your computer or go to the "My Wifes Asleep" chat room where you'll feel more at home.

Question: Where'd you get your spiffy glasses? How many pairs do you have anyway?

Carey: The original look was based on a pair of glasses that I got from the Marine Corp, that I got FREE just for JOINING! :) Then, they broke...and I got another pair at an antiques store that looked a little like them. But the ones I wear now are custom made duplicates of the $10 pair...because my antique pair broke and we couldn't find any like them anywhere. I think I have three pairs and the prop department has a couple, in case they have to replace them.

Question: Drew, do you still frequent Bob's Big Boy now that you're a big star and all?

Carey: No, They built a special Bob's Big Boy just for me! :) Of course I got to Bob's Big Boy...a lot more than I should! Whenever Morton's Steak House can't find me a table.

Question: I admire your tenacity to break the mold - do you feel your success was harder to achieve considering you're not the typical 'Hollywood type'?

Carey: What are you saying? Are you saying I'm not good looking? Because if that's what you're saying... That’s what I'm hearing...Now I'm going to cry...:(

Question: Are you currently involved or dating anyone?

Carey: Yes I am. She just walked in with an ice cream cone. It's melting all over the place! BUT if the ice cream's no good...you may have a chance... So Betty Boop -- Come see me when you're Bette Paige.

Question: Were there any sore losers in celebrity Millionaire?

Carey: No, Everyone took their glaring stupidity quite well. Although, Rosie is still kicking herself for letting me beat her on the Broadway show question! :)

Question: What was the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to you on the air?

Carey: I don't know the meaning of embarrassed. Anytime people laugh at me. I think it's a good thing I always tell everybody that I thought of it ahead of time. I wish I had a better answer. But I just can't think of anything right now.

Question: What is it like to be an international sex symbol???

Carey: Yes, I know I'm loved in Canada. But I tried to stay the same humble international sex symbol that I have always been.

Question: Was it hard juggling two TV series and a movie too?

Carey: Yes, Sheesh. It was really hard work that's why I'm not doing anything this summer. I am so burnt out.

Question: Do you feel in a crowd that you are always "expected" to be funny... Do you feel pressured at times?

Carey: Not any more. But I do always feel that I'm expected to pose for pictures and sign autographs. People do expect me to be real pleasant to everyone which is not hard to do because people are so nice to me.

Question: Drew, is that really you? You can't type that fast!!!

Carey: Of course I can...I work in an office ON TV! Here!! LOOK! Here's my driver's license! SEE?!?!?! There. Do you really thing that TV Guide and AOL would stage this giant scam for me? Why not say there were interviewing somebody big like Barbra Streisand or something. They wouldn't go to all the trouble to fake interview a sitcom star.

Question: Hey Drew, you going to do another live web cast for the Drew Carey Show again?

Carey: Probably not. It wasn't worth the trouble for the small audience on the net I know it was big for the internet but it was small compared to the TV show and a lot of people had trouble getting it because there was such demand.

Question: After doing Geppetto, do think about doing more projects like that?

Carey: Not if the critics have anything to say about it! Maybe I'll do another big Disney musical JUST TO PISS THEM OFF!

TV Guide Online: Thank you Drew! We had a great time! We'll be watching Geppetto! Please come back soon!

Carey: Geppetto's really good! I hope you'll watch it on Sunday ESPECIALLY if you have children! They will really get a kick out of it! And thank you everybody for taking the time to sign on, EXCEPT FOR THE PERSON who wondered if I was related to Drew Barrymore! :)
