I'm walking to my goal in life,
Alone, all alone.
My life used to be empty
Until I realized that
"Life is worth living."
My family is dead,
I have absolutely no one.
I have one set of clothes
And nothing more.
To me, it could be a desert
An oasis, perhaps.
The water was gleaming
The sky was blue,
The sun was shining,
The stars were, too.
Last night I camped out
Beneath the moon and stars above.
It was so beautiful,
Until a sandcrab bit my toe.
My wishes are simple;
I ask the stars everynight,
But not one of them has come true,
yet.
I'm still looking forward to that
day,
Someday, after all, I'm still
here.
Yesterday, I even tried skipping
stones,
But I ended up walking across
Stepping stones.
The whole scene made me realize
that
This is my goal in life.
I've been here the whole time.

This poem is a form of free-verse
"Dramatic Dialogue" & was written in
1998, my Junior year as a part of a
poetry portfolio. Although the
portfolio was given a mere B-, I
received a "Poetry Award" for this
poem & is the one piece I am most
proud of.
The main idea is to prove to the reader that no matter what you are doing, it is your goal in life. The main character feels that she/he needs to find out what their life is all about. A walk along the coast of an ocean makes her/him see that they have already found peace.
