Lauren and Micky’s apartment was dark. A light in a slightly dark shade of blue appeared on the bed and grew, then faded out, leaving both of them sitting on the bed.
Micky grinned. "Nothing like taking the Expressway!"
Lauren’s eyebrows arched. "That was... a little freaky, but much preferable to walking. Even if it is barely half a block."
"Always thinking of you, babe." He winked, gave her a kiss, then got up to retrieve both sets of pajamas.
"Mick?"
Micky turned after scooping up his own pajamas. "Yeah, babe?" She looked away, one hand rubbing unconsciously over her rather large stomach. His head tilted to one side. "What’s wrong?"
Lauren paused before replying, "It’s nothing."
His eyes narrowed slightly. "It isn’t nothing, babe, I can tell. Come on, we made a deal, we talk about whatever bothering us so it doesn’t well up and explode like Mount St. Helens." He gave a half grin.
She rolled her eyes, a small grin of her own appearing. "It’s just... Well, when Peter asked Em and Mike if they’re every gonna have kids--"
The grin fell. "And Mike replied that they just got married and... they aren’t as fast as us two bunny rabbits, I seem to recall was the wording." Micky made a face. "It’s the Italian in me." He shrugged. "I can’t help it if I’m passionate!"
Lauren smiled. "Which is fine with me. And I’m happy about the twins... but, Mick, you do get a bit... overzealous, shall I say."
He returned to the bed, now holding both sets of pajamas, and sat next to her. "Whataminute... is this about that book I gave them?" He quirked an eyebrow.
"Not completely..." she answered, looking away.
Micky sighed. "Babe, you aren’t gonna make me read your soul, are you?"
She turned her glance back, then shrugged. "I don’t know. You get carried away with displaying that passion. That’s what the others are using for their ammunition is teasing."
He sat for a moment, thinking. While thinking, the light came over him and the set of his own pajamas he’d been holding, Micky now wore, and his regular clothes in his hand. When he finally responded, he spoke quietly, "Do you want me to stop?"
Lauren shook her head. "No! I’m just saying... I’m curious if there’s a reason behind it."
Micky looked away. "Other than the two reasons that I’m sure you can guess..."
She rested a hand on his thigh. "Mick..."
He shook his head, then turned back to her. "The real real reason... and it’s really kinda stupid now, but it’s still that fear of... being alone. I know that’s highly unlikely to happen," he smiled at her, "but... I want to do everything I can for you to be happy."
Lauren smirked. "If you think I’m gonna leave you because you don’t touch me for a week, or even a month, I’m gonna get you an appointment to have your head examined!"
Micky gave a somewhat nervous chuckle. "It is pretty stupid, isn’t it?"
She nodded, her smirk remaining. "For me, it’s the relationship and, Micky, we have a great relationship... The sex is a perk." Lauren gave him a wink.
He grinned. "A perk, huh?" He paused, and took on a more serious look. "I guess that leaves me to ask if you want me to stop putting on a show, then?"
"Despite sometimes embarrassing the hell outta me, I have to admit I really do like it... especially now while I’m... huge." Lauren gave a small smile.
Micky just looked into her eyes for a moment. "Lauren, do you know why I call you babe all the time?"
Her eyebrows arched. "I never really thought about it. I thought it was just a nickname you like to use."
"That’s only a small part of it. I call you babe because, to me, you are a babe..." He grinned, placing a hand lightly on her stomach. "...Even if you think you’re huge. But there’s a great reason why you’re huge." He winked.
Lauren gave a full smile. "You really are a sweet talker, Mick. Thank you."
"Anytime, babe." Micky winked again. "So, uh, you want help getting changed?" He motioned to her pajamas that he’d brought over with him.
"Sure... I guess..." She gave him a questioning look, but he just grinned as the light surrounded her. When it faded, the clothes she’d been wearing he now held, and Lauren was now in her pajamas. Lauren matched his grin. "You’re gonna take every opportunity possible to use those new powers of yours, aren’t you?"
Micky nodded. "Of course." He winked again, then leaned over to kiss her. He pulled away, grinning. "Actually, something else I thought of... this’ll be tougher to find time to do when the twins are born. Better make up for any time we’ll lose."
"You are terrible!" Lauren returned the grin. "But it’s my favorite kind of terrible." She pulled him back down into another kiss.
