Powers

Micky stood on the beach, looking out towards the waves. Being energetic, he couldn’t just sit... no matter how much Lauren asked. She sat on a blanket a little ways behind where he stood.

It’d only been a few weeks since they’d run into and defeated Zero. For the most part, Micky had gotten over what had happened to him and what he had done in turn. There was one thing that still bugged him.

The powers he’d been given by Shelia were permanent, according to Miss Crystal. With those powers, the light that appeared was a darker shade of blue. This bothered Micky the most. He didn’t believe he had any evil tendencies, or even thoughts, left, yet the new powers were still tinged with evil and so was his light.

Micky held his right arm extended out and made his surfboard appear in the same darker blue light. He sighed.

Lauren watched Micky closely, just incase he got frustrated. Besides, watching him gave her a chance to sit and think... and suddenly get kicked in the ribs by one of two babies she was carrying. She ran a hand over her rather large stomach, trying to get them to calm down. By this point, she was a little over eight months pregnant and very ready to have the babies, if just to be able to move around on her own and see her feet again.

Micky made the surfboard disappear, enveloped in the same color light. Lauren could tell he was just trying to see if his light would change color, depending on either what he chose to make appear or his state of mind...

Micky turned and trudged up the sand, then flopped himself down next to Lauren.

"No luck," she stated, as he placed a hand gently on her stomach and gave it a rub.

"Nope." Micky sighed. "I don’t know, I can get used to it, but what the guys said about it being because of inner demons..."

"Personally, Mick, I still say it’s just left over from what... she... did to you and nothing more. It only accounts for the new powers," Lauren said.

Micky stared at the sand in front of them. After a few moments, the dark blue light appeared and left behind a small, neat sand castle... with a moat.

Lauren grinned, but Micky’s face remained neutral. "Babe... you think our kids’ll have powers, too?"

"Well, both of us do. It’s very possible. Why?" Lauren replied.

"Do you think if we have any more kids they’ll have my new powers?"

"Like the soul reading?" Lauren paused, as Micky nodded. "They might..."

"Then I have to find out if there’s any evil left in my powers." Micky finally faced Lauren again. "I don’t want any of our kids to have to deal with something because of me. Especially something as extreme as our powers."

Lauren nodded. "I understand."

Micky gave her a small grin. "So, you won’t mind me messing with my powers, then?"

"Did I say that?"

Late that night, Lauren awoke to a light show. She blinked, trying to get her eyes to adjust. She groaned. "Mick, when I said I didn’t mind you messing with your powers, I didn’t mean you could do it in the middle of the night when I’m trying to sleep."

Micky just frowned, still staring at the ball of light he held in his hands. It remained a dark shade of blue. His face scrunched in concentration, but the light didn’t change. The frown deepened and he dropped his hands, making the light disappear.

The room was dark and silent a few moments before the lamp by the bed came on. Lauren now sat up, concern crossing her face. "Micky, if this was because of any evilness left, Ursula would’ve told you so--"

"Unless she thinks I couldn’t handle it," he interrupted. Micky turned to Lauren and saw the look on her face. He sighed. "When we first got these powers, it was easier to deal with because all four of us went through it together. And now I’ve got powers the others don’t and I have to figure out how to handle them by myself. I probably have some I’m not even aware of yet!" He paused, then continued quietly, "I’m afraid of thinking the wrong thing and having my powers do something to one of you."

"Mick--"

"What if I argue with one of the guys? Who knows what I’m actually capable of doing?" He rested a hand lightly on her stomach. "I just don’t want to do something I’ll regret."

Lauren rested a hand on top of his. "You won’t. You can control your powers and yourself."

"If I get mad--"

"Turn and walk away," Lauren said, causing Micky to frown again. "I don’t mean it like that. You won’t be giving up, you’ll be taking a moment to think and calm down before something happens." She frowned abruptly, moving her hand to rub her stomach.

A small smirk crossed Micky’s face. "They’re getting restless."

She elbowed him. "Because someone woke us up!" She frowned again, this time rubbing her ribs. "And they’re kicking me again... Man, I won’t miss that, that’s for sure."

He quirked an eyebrow. "Want me to get that for you, babe?"

Lauren gave him the same look. "Could you, please?"
