Everyone ready to rescue and be rescued? ;)
Mike: This seems familiar...
Peter: Yes.
Micky: Definitely!
Davy: Ready.
(We open in a dimly-lit service hallway.)
Peter: I saw Sheila go this way when I was looking for Val before.
Mike: How long have you been here?
Peter: Oh, an hour or two, I think.
Micky: Notice anything odd, even for the devils?
Peter: No, not really.
Mike: Oh come on, they have to be up to something!
Peter: I got lost!
Mike: Then how do you know where we're going?
Peter: I saw Sheila on my way up to the roof.
Mike: And she didn't see you?
Peter: No, she didn't.
Mike: How are you able to hide, then.
Peter: (Slight smile) You'd be surprised how well I can hide these days.
Mike: I don't see any alcoves or doors or anything. How did you get here, anyway?
Peter: I drove here.
Mike: Without her seeing you?
Peter: What is this, Michael, twenty questions? :p
Mike: There's somethin' wrong here.
Peter: There's nothing wrong, Michael. Enough with the paranoia.
Mike: How did you get in?
Peter: I walked in.
Mike: No one stopped you?
Peter: The lobby was empty. This IS a new hotel.
*Micky & Davy exchange glances.*
Peter: Here we are. (He comes to a door) I think I saw Sheila go in this way. It must be the back of her penthouse or the staff's entrance.
(Peter opens the door. It enters into what looks like a kitchen area. The room isn't big, but it IS state-of-the-art for 1974, with huge built-in wood cabinets, top-of-the-line appliances, and a breakfast island in the middle.) Well, we're somewhere.
Mike: Micky, don't you EVEN...
*Micky runs around the kitchen, putting food together.*
Davy: Well, now see wot you've gone and done.
Peter: I'm sure Sheila won't mind if Mick borrows a little food. I imagine she has plenty.
Mike: Yeah, but now we'll NEVER get him outta here. And anyway, who knows WHAT Sheila has in that food?
Peter: Sheila doesn't let Alex mess with the food for regular consumption.
Mike: (To Micky) Well, now that you're fed, ready to move on?
Micky: You bet. *stands, then pauses suddenly*
Mike: What's wrong, Mick?
Micky: I don't know. I feel weird all of a sudden... *a black light slowly envelopes him*
Davy: Mick!
Mike: Micky! (He reaches for him...but he vanishes before he can grab him) MICK!
Peter: Oh god. They must have seen us come in somehow.
Davy: Now we 'ave to find the girls and Mick!
Mike: Shit. I guess we don't have a choice now. We have to keep moving.
(Peter next leads the boys to what looks like a large office. There's three huge desks. One's neat, with stacks of papers, pictures of celebrities, and invitations to parties and affairs. One's a mess, with piles of papers and old test tubes all over the place and is slightly singed. One is somewhat less messy and smaller. There's bookcases between the desks, and a gathering of leather chairs and heavy wood tables in the center.)
Mike: This must be where the Devils conduct their business.
Peter: They could be anywhere in here!
Mike: We have to be careful, though. We've already lost Mick. Sheila knows we're here.
Mike: This is crazy! I can't believe this!
Davy: Let’s look around. Maybe we'll find something of use.
Mike: (Frowns when he sees a shelf full of tools and parts over Alex's desk) Hey! This looks like some of the stuff from the MonkeeCave! (Growls) That asshole must have transported it here. I knew he destroyed the Cave on purpose! Man... (As he reaches for a hammer, a black light surrounds him) Wha...
Davy: Mike!
Peter: (Looks over his shoulder...just in time to see Mike enveloped by the black light) Oh no!
Mike: Guys! (He tries to concentrate, but it's no use. The black light envelopes him, and he disappears.)
Peter: Michael!
(Peter runs to where Mike was, but he's gone. Peter smirks a little at first, but quickly switches to alarm when Davy turns around.)
Davy: Now wot? We’re the only ones left.
Peter: This is getting really spooky. It's almost as bad as the time we disappeared in that castle and the monster took our musical abilities!
Davy: Yeah, mate. Wot we need to do is stick together and not do ANYTHING.
(The boys next find themselves in what we recognize as Sheila's room.)
Peter: You search the half of the room near the window, and I'll search near the bed. I think the girls were here, but they aren't here now.
Davy: *nods* Okay, Petah, just be careful wot you touch!
(Davy checks around the furniture by the windows. Peter checks around the bed.)
*Peter takes a book off the nightstand. When he replaces it, he's surrounded by a black light.*
Davy: *glances over* Petah!
Peter: Oh no! Davy! (He drops the book like it's on fire)
(Davy lunges for Peter, but there's nothing he can do. Peter disappears in a blast of black light.)
Davy: Oh no! I'm the only one left!
(Davy pulls back, making sure he doesn't touch the book Peter dropped.)
*Davy heads out of this room and makes his way to another room, similar to the office, with obvious touches from each of the devils.*
Davy: Oh great. I can 'ardly imagine wot I could find in 'ere.
(Davy peers into a closet and pulls out a purple tambourine.)
Davy: Well, isn't this a nice looking instrument. 'Ow could it end up in such ugly 'ands?
(Davy starts to shake it a little...and suddenly, a black light spreads around him.)
Davy: Wot the... Oh no... *disappears in the black light*
(Cut to a dark, dim room. It's a plain, steel-and-granite square with four walls and a barred window and door. Peter, Mike, and Micky are chained to the back wall, under the window.)
Mike: (He tugs) Man, I feel like shit.
Micky: You're telling us! I feel worse than shit.
Peter: I feel horrible. These chains... (He pulls weakly at them)
(Davy appears next to Mike in a black light, imprisoned in a fourth set of crystal chains.)
Micky: Welcome to the club.
Davy: What happened? Where are we?
Mike: Your guess is as good as ours.
Peter: We're still in LA. I'm getting more of Sheila's aura than Alex's.
Davy: That puts me mind at ease.
Mike: We have to get out of here and find the girls! (He tries to concentrate...but nothing happens) Damn it!
Peter: That won't be necessary, Michael. The girls aren't here.
Mike: WHAT!?
Micky: Huh?
Peter: I don't feel Val in the penthouse anymore. (Frowns...and the fear is genuine) I'm worried about her. I think the Devils may have played some of those torture games of theirs with her, and maybe with Lauren, too. They wouldn't leave her alone. I've felt woozy since last night.
Micky: So what do we do now? We aren't much help like this.
Mike: I don't know, Mick. We've gotta do somethin'.
(Sheila and Alex come in as they try to figure out what to do next. Sheila wears tight black pants and a black and red print peasant blouse and looks even taller than usual in high black spike heels.)
Sheila: Well, what do we have here? Four little Guardians all in a row, just for our pleasure.
Mike: (Growls) Get outta here, Sheila!
Alex: What, no 'hello' for me?
Micky: No.
Peter: Sheila, let us go!
Mike: Where's the girls?
Sheila: (Smirks) They'll be joining you shortly.
Micky: What is going ON?!
Peter: No! You've already done enough to Valerie!
Mike: If you touch them...
Sheila: Don't worry about your precious Aristocrat, Bard. She'll be fine. We'll make sure all of the girls are taken care of.
Mike: Yeah, you'll probably kill Em.
Peter: No, she won't.
Micky: Like hell you will.
Davy: Don't go neah those girls!
Peter: Sheila, if you hurt any of the girls, so help me...
Sheila: Zelda's handling them even as we speak. (Looks at Alex) Shall we see if we can lend a hand?
Alex: You know I'm always willing to.
*Micky growls.*
Sheila: Ta ta, Guardians! (They close the door, literally leaving the four Monkees in the dark)
Micky: Noooooooo... *takes a breath* ...ooooooooooo! *pants*
Davy: Thank you, Mick. Now I can't 'ear on that side.
Peter: (Laughs) Oh you two! You haven't changed at all!
Micky: We NEED to do SOMETHING! *rattles his chains*
Davy: Mike?
Mike: What can we do? We have to hope the girls can... (Eyes widen) There has to be a way we can get the girls here. They can feel us, right?
Peter: You're saying they'll know we're here.
Mike: Or at least that we're in trouble.
Davy: Then lets 'ope they find us quick.
Mike: I know we can't concentrate enough to get out of here, but maybe we could lead the girls here somehow.
Peter: (Narrows his eyes) I don't think we could do that, Michael.
Davy: Or we could let Mick scream and lead them 'ere.
Micky: *weary* Funny, Dave.
Mike: Pete, we have to try if we want to get out of here. Guys, close your eyes and concentrate.
(Cut from the guys as they shut their eyes and concentrate to where we left off last night. The girls are still confronting Zelda and the demons in the hallway.)
Emma: Let us through, Zelda!
Lauren: *shakes a fist* Or else!
Valerie: Oh sure... (She just giggles)
Emma: (Eyes widen; hands on her chest) Zelda, let us through! The guys are in trouble!
Daphne: NOW!
*Lauren shakes a fist.*
Zelda: Now, why would I let you through, hm?
Emma: (Steps up to her) Because we have to get through to our men. How would you feel if we had Alex?
Zelda: *makes a face* I wouldn't like it, but I wouldn't expect YOU to let ME get to HIM!
Daphne: She does actually kinda have a point.
*Lauren is fuming. She walks up to Zelda and swings, clipping her jaw. Zelda drops like a sack of flour.*
Daphne: *whistles* Damn.
Emma: You amaze me, Lauren. Zelda should know better than to get you mad by now.
*Lauren nods her agreement, then points at the demons. They scatter once they realize they've been noticed.*
Emma: Well, that was easy. (Puts her hand on her heart; eyes get even wider) Guys...I know where the boys are! They're being held prisoner in the penthouse! In some barred room...
Daphne: Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go!
(Emma opens the door and all four girls tumble in, stepping over Zelda; brief downward shot of a pair of slacks, a pair of jeans, a peach-colored skirt, and Valerie's crumpled yellow gown making their way around the unconscious female Devil.)
Sheila: (She, Alex, and more demons and handmaidens meet the girls in the living room) Going somewhere, ladies? (Smirks) You fell right into our trap. You AND the male Guardians.
Emma: Where are they, Sheila? Where's that barred room?
*Lauren shakes her fist again.*
Alex: *smirks* I think the Mother wants to play rough.
Emma: Dream on, Alex.
Sheila: Oh, he already has.
Alex: I thought that was obvious.
*Lauren clenches both fists and runs at Alex. She rams her shoulder into his gut, knocking him down.*
(Which kicks off our next romp, "I Won't Be The Same Without Her." Emma makes her field hockey stick appear and goes after Sheila.)
Sheila: (Over the music) Be careful with that thing, Scholar! This stuff's expensive!
(Sheila makes her staff appear, and they duel in one end of the room.)
*Daphne helps Lauren by fending off the handmaidens while she pounds on Alex.*
(Emma and Sheila fight their way into Sheila's room. Emma finally knocks Sheila onto the bed. She points her stick at her throat.)
Emma: (As the music ends) Where's the barred room, Sheila?
Sheila: Do you think I'm going to tell you?
Emma: I'd suggest you do. If you don't, I'll sic the Mother on you.
*Lauren dusts her hands off after leaving Alex unconscious.*
Sheila: They're down the hall, near the servant's entrance and the kitchen.
Emma: Thank you. (Turns to the other three as they join her and the song ends) Now, ladies, what shall we do with the Devil Woman so she doesn't try to stop us from saving our men?
Daphne: How about we tie her up?
Emma: Be my guest. (She makes her hockey stick disappear and moves back)
Valerie: Tie 'er!
Emma: Um, let me help you there, Val... (Emma lets Valerie lean on her)
*Lauren and Daphne cause some cartoon dust that covers all three of them. When they finish, Sheila is trussed up like a Thanksgiving turkey. The girls dust their hands off.*
Emma: Very nice.
Valerie: Oooh!
Daphne: Thanks.
*Lauren nods.*
Emma: Let's go find our good men. (Frowns; puts her head in her hands) And fast. I don't feel that great. I think there may be more crystals here.
(Emma leads the girls down the hallway, leaving Sheila bound and fuming in her bedroom. Cut to the boys in the dark room again.)
Mike: (Weakly) Do you...feel them?
Peter: (Small head shake) Val's still out of it. All I'm getting from her are giggles.
Micky: I think they're getting closer. *pauses* Man, my throat feels dry.
Mike: My head feels like a lead weight.
Davy: Me whole body feels like lead.
Mike: I can feel Em. They're here. (Tries to call out, but his voice sounds weak) Girls! Em! We're here!
Peter: Val!
Micky: *voice cracks* Lauren!
Davy: Daph!
Emma: (From outside) Guys?
Mike: Em! We're in here!
Valerie: Oooh...
Peter: Val!
Daphne: Davy?
Davy: We're in 'ere!
Micky: Lauren?
Daphne: She's here!
Emma: Alex muted her. (We see Emma, Val, Daphne, and the tip of Lauren's head outside the door) We're here, boys. Any ideas of how to get out of here?
*We hear the sound of keys in a lock. Light spills into the room.*
Daphne: Ta da!
Emma: (As she opens the door) I'm glad you swiped the keys from Sheila when you tied her up, Daph.
Daphne: It was nothin’.
Mike: Em! (He weakly tries to move to her)
Valerie: Peter?
Peter: Honey, it's me.
*Lauren fishes for a light switch, finds it, and flips it on.*
Emma: Guys... (She groans)
Daphne: What in the world...
Mike: Yeah, Em. These chains are made of the Black Crystals, the same stuff around the boxes at the Club Caprice.
Emma: (She leans against Mike) Oh Baby...
Peter: You're going to have to risk it if you want to get us all out of here. We can't use the Imagination Powers like this!
*Lauren yanks on Micky's chains. She breaks him free within seconds.*
Daphne: I say we have Lauren do all of them.
Emma: Um...I say you're right.
Micky: *rubs his wrists* Thanks babe.
*Lauren goes about breaking the other guys free while the others watch in amazement.*
Valerie: Peter! (She lunges for him the moment he's free; he takes her in his arms)
*When Lauren's done, she goes back to Micky. He kisses and dips her.*
Lauren: *sigh of relief* It's so nice to be able to talk again.
Peter: Oh Val... (He kisses her. Val grins at him)
Valerie: Hi, honey. Darn, have you been taking lessons in the Valley?
Peter: I've ALWAYS been good!
*Davy and Daphne are still kissing.*
Mike: (As Emma helps him to his feet) We'd better get going, before the Devils find out we're gone.
Peter: We can go out through the roof again. The girls can imagine their way back to the parking garage from there. We can't do it here. There's force fields around this hotel that prevent our powers from escaping.
Mike: Now how did you know that?
Peter: I heard Sheila and Alex mention it at the club.
Micky: Who cares? Let’s just get outta this place!
Peter: Come on. (Cut to the same door the boys came in) I'm going to go back through the hallway. I need to get to my car. It's in the parking garage, too.
Emma: (Frowns) I don't remember seeing your GTO there.
Peter: I drove another car.
Davy: Mates, I'm actually going to agree with Mick. Let’s just get out of 'ere while we can.
(Peter watches as the MonkeeLeague makes it's way to the roof...then seemingly blends into the shadows as he heads back to the penthouse, laughing all the way.)
Sheila: (She's hopping over to the kitchen) Damn it! We lost them AGAIN!
Male Voice: (The shadows in her kitchen seem to speak to her) No we haven't, Sheila. They'll be back.
Sheila: How can you be so sure?
Male Voice: They're suspicious of me now. That's why I let them go. Now wasn't the right time. (He laughs) Soon, Sheila. Soon, I'll have my Collectors...and you'll have your souls.
Sheila: You're scaring me.
Male Voice: It'll be soon, Sheila. Very, very soon. (And we end with the shadow's laughter ringing in the early evening light as we fade out on the kitchen's windows and the last sight of the plane and Rosemarie streaking across the LA skyline)
